Background: Dental caries continues to be the main oral health problem in the population worldwide, resulting in the destruction of dental tissues, inflammation and infection of the pulp tissue, which causes loss of dental vitality. On the other hand, the use of fluorine in the prevention of dental caries is a widespread and long-standing practice in the dental profession. Scientific research has specified that there is no other more effective and cost-effective primary prevention measure aimed at combating dental caries than the use of fluorides. Objective:The objective of this study is to evaluate the concentration of Total Fluoride (TF) in fluoride gels for professional use. Materials and methods: Three units of each brand of Fluorine Phosphate Acidulated 12300 ppm F gel were obtained, which met the inclusion criteria, marketed in Lima, Peru in 2021. Two individual samples were taken from each container. In total, there were nine samples analyzed by each brand. Results: When evaluating the real concentration of FT in the gel, it was found that Fluofar presented an average of 7280 ppmF, Maquira an average of 10393 ppmF and finally Ionite an average of 10760. Conclusions: The difference between the average concentration of Total Fluoride Declared by the manufacturer and the Total Fluoride of the Acidulated Fluorine phosphate gels studied was more than 5% of the concentration of said gels.
