Background: 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (24h ABPM) is the best tool for evaluating BP control in hypertensive patients. However, it has limitations such as its high cost, discomfort during recordings, and restricted number of patients evaluated. Objectives: Our study aimed to compare the average daytime systolic blood pressure (SBP) using continuous BP monitoring for 1 hour (CBPM-1) versus 24h ABPM and secondarily, the average daytime diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Furthermore, to compare daytime SBP and DBP between 24h ABPM versus 30-minute CBPM (CBPM-30) and 24h ABPM versus BP measurement in the office. Methodology: We conducted a prospective crosssectional descriptive study. Controlled hypertensive patients were recruited from the cardiology service of Hospital Cayetano Heredia (HCH), and the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The paired Student's t-test was used for the means of the SBP and DBP averages, and the Pearson correlation coefficient (rp) was also found. Results: Of the 51 participants recruited, 40 were included in the final analysis. 75% of them were women, with a mean age of 65.88 ± 8.61 years old, with obesity (55%), and in pharmacological monotherapy (52.5%). The mean difference was not significant (p=0.258) for daytime SBP between 24h ABPM and CBPM-1 (-2.07 mmHg), but it was significant (p=0.009) for DBP (-2.66 mmHg). A strong correlation (0.5≤ rp ≤1) was found for daytime SBP (rp=0.56) and DBP (rp=0.82) between the 24h ABPM and CBPM-1, statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: The average daytime SBP between the CBPM-1 and ABPM 24h was statistically comparable as there were no significant differences between both methods.
