In their works, the primary-level teachers have the responsibility of having certain characteristics that allow them to develop their role successfully. The development and management of emotional skills or competencies are essential for the teacher to have emotional, physical, and psychological well-being; and also to maintain their quality as a teacher and be able to pass on their knowledge to their students. The objective set for this study is to carry out a critical analysis of emotional competencies in Spanish-speaking teachers who teach at the primary level from 2016 to 2021. Regarding the specific population of this research, it was delimited to focus on primary level teachers. This study is a documentary research. The process of this studied was; first search articles or studies related to the subject, then some articles were select to analyze their information. Twenty-six articles were collect and only twelve articles were analyze, because only this ones met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this research. Most of these articles were quantitative. The results evidenced; at a theoretical level, the concept of emotional competence is linked to other constructs (emotional and socio-emotional skills, socio-emotional skills and emotional intelligence); and on a practical level, that it is necessary for the teacher to put into practice their emotional competencies, so that they can develop their role optimally and appropriately. Similarly, the teacher who has these skills; develops a personal well-being, generates a faster and more significant learning in its students and produces an atmosphere of harmony in the classroom environment.
