Background: Insulin resistance (IR) is related to the pathophysiology, complications and an increase in risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality, which occurs in arterial hypertension (AHT). A novel, inexpensive and easier way to measure IR and which relates to cardiovascular mortality and allcause mortality is the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index. Objective: To determine the TyG index in hypertensive patients treated in a private clinic between April 2021 and April 2022. Material and methods: Descriptive, retrospective, case series study in patients with AHT which were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The clinical and demographic characteristics, as well as the value of the TyG index of the patients and its variations with selected variables were described. Results: The mean of the TyG index, with the standard formula, was 8.96 (± 0.46) and with the second formula it was 4.83 (±0.23). Only the relationship between the standard formula of the TyG index showed an inverse correlation significant with the high-density lipoproteins (HDL) (r = - 0.33 p = 0.02). The rest of the demographic and clinical variables showed no correlation. Conclusions: The TyG index obtained was on average 8.96 (± 0.46) in hypertensive patients and only the HDL values had an inverse proportional relationship with the TyG index (r = - 0.33, p = 0.02).
