The objective of the study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of the main accidents caused by venomous animals registered at the Tingo María Hospital during the 2018-2021 period. For this, a descriptive observational study was developed, which used the information collected in the database of the Strategic Area of Zoonoses of the Tingo María Hospital for the period of this study. Information corresponding to the variables age, gender, age group and origin of the patient, geographic and seasonal distribution of the accident, gender and species of the offending animal, and anatomical location of the injury caused by the accident was collected. From the information collected, an Excel database was created, which was summarized using descriptive statistics. It is observed that during the years 2018-2021 a total of 196 accidents by poisonous animals were registered, in 2019 the highest number was registered with 69 cases. The months in which more cases of accidents caused by venomous animals were reported were April and December, associated with the increase in temperature and rainfall in these months. The provinces of Leoncio Prado (70.9%) and Huamalíes (15.8%) registered the highest number of cases. The male sex was the most affected (54.1%), while the most affected age group was 30 to 59 years. It was observed that snakebite is the main accident (72.4%), followed by arachneism (21.4%). Bothrops atrox (45.9%) was the most identified species; However, the gender and species of the offending animal were not differentiated in 45.4% of the cases. The lower limbs (42.3%) are the main regions of the body affected by accidents with venomous animals. Due to the high percentage of accidents caused by venomous animals, it would be important to implement and/or strengthen prevention measures.
