The purpose of the case study was to intervene in an 18-year-old female drug addict user from a rehabilitation therapeutic community through the use of cognitive-behavioral approach techniques. The intervention process consisted of 34 individual sessions, 4 follow-up sessions and 8 family sessions. The objective was to develop cognitive, emotional and behavioral skills for the process of changing addictive behavior in the user according to the transtheoretical model of Prochaska and DiClemente. For this, the user was evaluated using psychological tools to delimit the study problem, finding that the user did not know and denied having problems in drug use, did not recognize and manage her emotions, presented irrational thoughts that favored her consumption and had inappropriate behavior patterns for their care and interaction with others. Based on these results, an intervention plan guided by the cognitive behavioral approach was created, developing indicators to measure the evolution of the intervention; and to monitor the results. The results showed that the user developed illness awareness, better management of her emotions, adequately restructuring her irrational thoughts, acquiring healthy behavioral patterns and better conflict management. It was concluded that, after the psychological intervention, the user developed cognitive, emotional and behavioral skills for the process of changing her addictive behavior according to the data collected during the intervention and follow-up stage.
