The present study analyzes the association between the doctor-patient relationship and the level of knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus. It has been used instruments such as the physician-patient relationship questionnaire (CREM-P), the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire 24 (DKQ24), and a questionnaire for the collection of sociodemographic data. A sample of 256 patients from the parish of Calderón, Manabí, Ecuador, was used. The results of the CREM-P questionnaire determined an apparently good doctor-patient relationship. The DKQ 24 questionnaire shows that the level of knowledge about the disease among patients in this community is not prominent. The results obtained, tabulated, analyzed and discussed conclude that there is no direct relationship between the variables: doctorpatient relationship and the level of knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus; however, it was determined that there are other sociodemographic factors such as age, stage of diagnosis and schooling that are related to the level of knowledge of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in this community.
