Background: The WHO defines a Missed Opportunity for Vaccination (MOV) as any circumstance in which a child under 5 years of age, even though he/she is eligible and has the need to be vaccinated, is not administered the corresponding vaccines when visiting a health center. Objective: To evaluate Missed Opportunities for Vaccination attributable to medical personnel (MOV-M) in pediatric outpatient visits in children under 5 years of age at Cayetano Heredia Hospital. Materials and methods: Prospective, cross-sectional, survey-type study carried out in patients under 5 years of age after completing their outpatient care. Results: 385 participants were included (77 Neonatology, 77 General Pediatrics and 231 Pediatric Specialties). A total of 21.81% MOV were identified; corresponding to Neonatology (6.49%), General Pediatrics (19.48%) and Pediatric Specialties (27.70%). There were 27.22% of MOV-M in physicians who did not inquire about vaccination and 15.84% in those who did inquire. The vaccines with the greatest absence were the second boosters of DPT and oral Polio with 33.33% in both cases. Associated factors for MOV-M were found to be: age ≥12 months, the reason for consultation "pathology" and the physician's failure to inquire. Conclusions: The frequency of MOV-M in pediatric outpatient visits was 21.81%, with pediatric specialties being the area with the highest frequency of MOV-M. The percentage of MOV-M was higher in doctors who did not inquire about vaccination. The most frequently missed vaccines were the second boosters of DPT and oral Polio.
