Objetives: Determine the reference values of spirometry and formulate an equation of prediction of spirometric values in economically active population of regions with altitude 0-100 m s. n.m. who attended an occupational medical center in a period between November 2019 - March 2020. Materials and Methods: The medical histories of patients who had spirometry and chest x-ray performed during the period included in the study were reviewed to select the study sample considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. Information was collected on the variables that were considered in the study: spirometric values (FEV1 and FVC), sociodemographic data (Sex, Age and Geographical Altitude of the place of habitual residence) and anthropometric measures (Weight and Height). Se dividió a la muestra para poder aplicar la prueba estadística de regresión múltiple para la determinación de la ecuación en el primer subgrupo y las pruebas de correlación intraclase, T de student para muestras pareadas y los gráficos de Bland-Altman para evaluar la confiabilidad de la ecuación propuesta en el segundo subgrupo. Results: 1134 medical records (45.36%) were selected from a total of 2500 records based on the consideration of the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, being 1052 medical records of men (97.77%) and 82 medical records of women (7.23%); due to this small number of stories, it is decided to carry out the formulation and testing only in men. Information was collected from 752 patient medical records (385 men from Piura and 367 men from Trujillo) for the formulation of the predictive equation of Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and Forced Expiratory Volume in the first Second (FEV1), taking the variables of age, geographic altitude, and height through a multiple linear regression analysis (FVC: R²=0.33 y FEV1: R²=0.344). The spirometry reference values were calculated through the analysis of the standard normal distribution and considering the normal limit values in the +/- 1.645 (Standard Deviation), obtaining normal ranges of FVC of 3.48 – 5.47 and FEV1 2.83 – 4.41. The reliability of the equation was evaluated in a validation subgroup (300 patients), in which statistical significance was found in the mean difference (p‹0.05) between the values predicted by the equation and the actual values: The mean of the FVC differences is 0.07, with an SD of 0.53 and a 95% CI 0.01 – 0.13 and the mean of the FEV1 differences is 0.06, with an SD of 0.419 and 95% CI 0.01 – 0.11. In the Bland-Altman graphs no significant bias was found in the developed equations. In addition, to evaluate the concordance between the actual values and the values predicted by the equation, the intraclass correlation coefficients were estimated. (CVF – ICC of Average Measurements: 0.69 and FEV1 – ICC Average Measurements: 0.70). The statistical tests used were considered statistically significant when p ‹ 0.05. Conclusions: The spirometry reference values for the economically active male population are within the following normal ranges: the normal range of FVC is 3.48 – 5.47 and the normal range of FEV1 is 2.83 – 4.41. The equations of Forced Vital Capacity and Forced Expiratory Volume at first Second developed allow predicting with adequate reliability the real values considering variables such as age, height and geographical altitude in the economically active male population of the regions included in the study.
