One of the factors of the rapid disappearance of the Titicaca Water Frog (Telmatobius culeus) is the illegal collection for their consumption in juices. This activity is popular in Lima since people attributed it healing and aphrodisiac properties. But it is possible that pathogenic microorganisms for humans are present in the skin of these frogs, such as Vibrio cholerae, V. alginolyticus and V. fluvialis, known to cause intestinal infections, mostly. Due to environmental conditions and the contamination of Lake Titicaca, it was proposed that these bacteria of the genus Vibrio could be present in the skin of wildlife T. culeus. The study was carried out in March 2018, samples were collected by swabbing the cutaneous surface of 35 frogs captured at two points of Lake Titicaca (North Perka and Chifrón). The samples were sent to the microbiology laboratory of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia where they were grouped, enriched and cultivated in the TCBS and TSA agar medium. Subsequently, biochemical tests were carried out and lastly, the samples were sent to the National Health Institute (INS), where an API 20 E kit was used for identification. No bacteria of the genus Vibrio were identified. The results indicated the presence of Aeromonas hydrophila, Shewanella putrefaciens and Shewanela spp.
