The Cacajao calvus (red uakari) is a neotropical primate that inhabits the Amazon region of Peru, Colombia and Brazil. It is currently in a vulnerable state, due to the illegal trade and loss of its habitat. For the study of the morpho-anatomy of the abdominal organs, the ultrasound is a safe, fast and non-invasive method of limited use in captive wildlife medicine. The present study described the different ultrasound characteristics of the abdominal organs of the Cacajao calvus species in captivity, in order to generate more information about the echographic anatomy of this species. The ultrasound equipment used was ESAOTE brand, MyLabOne™ and MyLabGamma™ models, with transducers: SC 3123 micro convex of 4 - 9 MHz and linear SL 1543 of 7-13 MHz. The echogenicity, shapes, margins and topography of the liver, gallbladder, spleen, stomach, kidneys, bladder, ovaries, uterine body and testicles were analyzed in a sample of eleven specimens of C. calvus, from the Mariposario Pilpintuwasi in Iquitos and the Parque de las Leyendas Zoo in Lima. The study concludes that the ultrasound and topographic characteristics of the abdominal organs are described for the first time in the Cacajao calvus species, besides these characteristics are similar to those found in other neotropical primates; however, in the case of the echographic patterns and the dimensions of the reproductive organs of C. calvus, they show no similarity when they are compared to the Alouatta seniculus species.
