The productive efficiency of the inclusion of the live yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 1026 (LVSC) in the diet of growing and finishing pigs was evaluated. For the purposes of the study, 48 pigs were randomly grouped, according to sex and type of feed administered (treated and control), for 50 days in males and 55 days in females. The weight and thickness of back fat were recorded at the beginning (day 0), at transition (day 25) and at the end of the test (day 50 and 55). The data was summarized by measures of central tendency and dispersion. The differences between both groups were determined using the Student's T-test of independence, with a significance level of 5%. The statistical analysis was done using the STATA v. 13.0 software. Statistical differences were found in body weights in the two measurements in favor of the treatment group, both in the case of males and females, at 115 days of age (67.95 ± 8.07 kg and females 66.77 ± 6.27) compared to the control group (males 53.04 ± 5.31 and females 56.95 ± 4.37 kg) and at the end of the test, at 140 days of age in males (treatment group 93.86 ± 7.70 kg versus control 76.38 ± 7.05 kg) and 145 days of age in females (treatment group 98.19 ± 8.54 kg and control group females 90.77 ± 8.41 kg). No significant differences were found in the thickness of the back fat. The point values of the feed conversion showed better results in the treatment group, both in male animals (treatment group 2.81 and control 3.61) and in females (treatment 2.46 and control 3.23) at the end of the trial. It is concluded that SCVL represents a natural alternative to be used in pig production as a growth promoter.
