Background: In computed tomography, the frequent method for calculating absorbed dose is the Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI), however, several authors have reported limitations for this method. On the other hand, optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLD) seems to be a good method due to their high sensitivity and high dynamic range for obtaining doses. Objective: The correlation was estimated between the radiation dose calculated by CTDI and that obtained by OSL dosimetry in the skull tomography process using a simulator, according to each tomographic technique. Material and methods: Geometries were designed and built for the calibration and characterization of the OSLDs. Irradiations were carried out on a Toshiba Aquilion Prime 80 tomograph. Also, a skull polymethylmethacrylate simulator, an ionization chamber with electrometer and OSLD with a microStar reader were used. The correlation for each tomographic technique was estimated using the Pearson R test. Results: A positive correlation (R = 0.97) was observed in the first technique when using the S, M and L field of view (FoV) between the dose calculated by the CTDI and that obtained by the OSLD. Conclusions: Results show that there is a strong positive correlation in technique 1.
