Peru in coherence with the search for balance between socio-economic growth, use and conservation of natural resources, to ensure the growth of a just, inclusive and ecologically neutral society, since 2016 the Ministry of Environment establishes that the environmental unit (UE) of district municipalities, is the local entity responsible for implementing environmental policies and plans. Therefore, this project proposed a descriptive cross-sectional study, in order to analyze the management of environmental protection and conservation in departments of the jungle region of Peru, considering the environmental indicators reported by the National Survey of Municipalities 2019. This information was organized in a database and descriptive analyses were performed with Stata software. As a result, it was determined:1. The existence of a gap between the number of UE installed and those required by departments. Identifying the biggest problem in: Amazonas and Loreto; 2. The most frequent complaints by type of pollution are: noise, water and air; and the main types of polluting elements are: uncontrolled domestic animal breeding; wastewater; and deforestation and burning of forests; 3. The analysis on the coherence between the attention of complaints by type of pollution, the application of management instrument and conservation actions showed: a. Offices that are working according to what is established in the legal framework (Law No. 28611); and b. There are some number of UE, present in all departments that have deficient environmental management, because they receive complaints, but do not apply environmental management instruments and do not carry out conservation actions. On the other hand, the definition of an intervention strategy to deal with this situation involves overseeing the application of current regulations and laws, promoting citizen participation, and working on the most frequent types and elements of contamination.
