Background. Tuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem with high rates of death, poor adherence and loss to follow up, among the associated factors it has been described that cannabis use could favor TB transmission and infection, as well as the unfavorable treatment results. Objective. To perform a systematic review regarding the association between cannabis use and negative TB treatment outcomes (death, loss to follow-up, and treatment failure). Materials and methods. A bibliographic search was carried out in Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual de la Salud (BVS), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Scopus, using the terms: “tuberculosis”, “cannabis use”, among others. Cohorts, case-control and cross-sectional studies published until December 31, 2020 were considered. Results: A total of 246 studies were found, 7 were included to final analysis. With regards to the main analysis, no study did not adjust exactly with the definition of bad TB outcome. Regarding secondary analysis, a systematic review of each negative result associated with cannabis was carried out individually, 3 studies suggest information between association of cannabis use and loss in follow-up. Conclusions: Based on the systematic review there could be evidence of a possible association between cannabis use and loss of follow-up in TB patients, however the results are inconclusive.
