Background: The laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a rutinary and frequent procedure. A third of them are difficult cholecystectomies, being the most utilized surgical techniques, the subtotal cholecystectomy, divided in fenestrating and reconstituting, that can result in surgical complications. Objective: Describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients undergoing Subtotal Cholecystectomy performed in the Hospital Cayetano Heredia from 2016-2020. Material and Methods: Records of patients who underwent subtotal cholecystectomy were revised: fenestrated or reconstituting, performed in the General Surgery Service of Hospital Cayetano Heredia from March 2016 to March 2020, dividing subjects in two groups: fenestrating subtotal cholecystectomy and reconstituting subtotal cholecystectomy. Results: 20 records of patients who underwent subtotal or partial cholecystectomy were found. Mean age was 59.65 years. The most performed cholecystectomy was reconstituting subtotal cholecystectomy (80%). Reconstituting subtotal cholecystectomy presented the highest rate of complications (43.75%). Most procedures were performed on consult patients (65%). Complications were observed on 40% of them. The mean length of stay was 6.25 days. The most frequently seen complication was bile leak (25%). There was no mortality. Conclusions: Reconstituting subtotal cholecystectomy was the most common procedure, and it presented the highest complication rate. Bile leak was the most prevalent complication.
