Background: Gastric carcinoma (GC) is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide and nationally, representing the second cause of cancer mortality in the years 2017-2018 in our country. The recently published molecular classification of GC highlights the association between a GC subtype and the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). In Peru there are few publications that study this relationship and its implications for the patient. Objective: Detect EBV by CISH and describe the clinicopathological characteristics of EBVaGC Materials and methods: A descriptive observational study will be carried out taking as population, adults with a diagnosis of gastric carcinoma who have undergone gastrectomy between 2012 and 2015 at the Archbishop Loayza National Hospital. The results of the CISH for EBV will be described according to the different variables such as: age and sex, tumor location, Bormann classification, clinical stage, tumor infiltrating lymphocytes, histological type, level of infiltration and survival. Results: It was found that 5 (10%) of the 50 samples analyzed were positive for EBV. Among the positives, there was a higher prevalence of men, older age, location in the antropylorus, signet ring cell type, poorly differentiated, high TILs, clinical stage 3 and Bormann 3. Conclusions: Some results differ from what was found at the worldwide, which indicates that this type of gastric cancer may behave differently, depending on the region; however, further studies with the ability to find correlation are necessary.
