Background: Ending the year 2019, SARS-CoV-2, virus responsible of COVID-19 disease, was discovered. Approximately 80% of those infected have no or mild symptoms, 15% severe symptoms and 5% critical symptoms. With the available information, the CDC has developed a list of established and probable risk factors that predispose a person to develop severe symptoms from SARS-CoV-2. Objective: Describe the frequency of risk factors related to an increased probability of severe COVID-19 in medical students at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and in people who live with them. Methods: Observational, descriptive cross-sectional study. The population was 3rd to 7th year medical students. The sample was 264 students. The data collection method was a questionnaire. Results Of the 264 medical students, 32.2% has overweight and 4.55% were obese. 24.62% of the participants report living with a person over 65 years of age. In the domestic groups, 43.25% were overweight, 12% obese, and 0.96% has morbid obesity. In 20.83% and 37.5% of households, at least one person has diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure, respectively. Conclusion: Obesity, diabetes mellitus, overweight, and high blood pressure were the most common comorbidities. Considering established and probable risks and other conditions such as tuberculosis, 86.36% of the domestic groups have at least one risk factor for severe disease due to SARS-CoV-2. It is necessary to take measures to monitor these comorbidities to face epidemics like the current one.
