The study was carried out above 2,500 meters above sea level, with the results of occupational medical examinations of workers from a Peruvian mining company. OBJECTIVE: To describe the respiratory mechanical function with age in mining workers above 2 500 m.s.n.m. The research will contribute to the study of reference spirometric parameters for miners at high altitudes in Peru. METHODOLOGY: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, by non-probabilistic convenience sampling in 300 mining workers whose ages were between 20 and 60 years, with a forced spirometry test to determine respiratory mechanics according to the criteria of the American Thoracic Society (ATS). RESULTS: 97.6% were men and 2.33% women, mean age 42.79 years for men and 30 years for women; 24% were normal weight, 62.33% overweight, and 13.33% obese; 22.86% of men were older than 51 years, in women none were older than 40 years. Forced Vital Capacity progressively decreases with age ranges, the same occurs with the results of FEV1, and FEV1 / FVC, FEP and FEF 25-75%. CONCLUSION: The spirometric values at the altitude of the study (4750 m.s.n.m.) are lower than the values in male miners at 4,100 m.s.n.m. and in the non-mining population, under 40 years of age.
