Background: Sexual violence against women is a major public health problem. Sexual violence can be associated with sexually transmitted infections (STI). Objective: To explore the relationship between sexual violence and STI and other variables in urban and rural populations of the Peruvian Amazon Material and methods: We carried out an analysis of secondary databases. We included data from women 18-29 years old from 4 cities in the Peruvian Amazon: Iquitos, Pucallpa, Yurimaguas and Puerto Maldonado and 27 indigenous populations. Results: From a total of 1699 women, 16.8% reported sexual intercourse before 15 years and 17.5% [95% CI: (15.6-19.5)] have ever had non-consented sex. 17.4% of women reported at least one STI and 9.7% more than one. In the multivariate analysis we found an association between the report of non-consented sex and being a quechua speaker (RP=2.0 95% CI [1.2-3.3]); onset of sexual intercourse under 15 years (RP=1.6[1.1-2.5]); report of more than 2 sexual partners in life (RP=3.2[2.2- 4.6]), report of last sexual intercourse with an occasional partner (RP=3.2[2.0-5.2]) and alcohol dependence (RP=1.4[1.0-1.8]). No association was found between nonconsented sex and STI. Conclusions: Sexual violence is associated with early sexual onset, being Quechua speaking, having multiple partners, more recent sex with an occasional partner and alcohol dependence, but not associated with STI.
