To determine the frequency of third molar location in panoramic radiographs of patients treated at Centro de Diagnóstico e Imagen Ortodoncico, Loja, Ecuador, 2015. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational crosssectional study was performed. The sample was 199 panoramic radiographs and 720 third lower molars, whose images were evaluated taking into account the depth according to Pell & Gregory classification, and the proximity according to Robert Langlais et al classification to determine proximity to mandibular canal. Chi-square, Chi-square tests corrected by Yates, U of Mann Whitney and Kruskall Wallis were used. The study had 95% confidence and a p <0.05. Results: The radiographs belonged to a group of 74 men (36.82%) and 127 women (63.18%) with an average age of 28.79 years, with a standard deviation of 7.785, 168 right molars (50.60%) and 154 left molars (49.40%). The study indicates that 102 molars (30.4%) were not found near the lower duct; while 234 (69.6%) they were. Conclusions: The depth of the third molars is associated with the proximity to the mandibular canal.
