Self-prescription of antibiotics, especially in children, is a significant risk that can lead to antimicrobial resistance, hampering the treatment of infections. The objective of this research was to describe self-prescription with antibiotics by parents of children under 5 years of age in a health center in Chiclayo, 2023. The sample consisted of 299 parents, of children from 0 to 5 years old assigned to the José health center. Olaya; To collect data, a questionnaire adapted from another study was used, subject to validation by expert judgment, with Aiken's V coefficient = 1, p = 0.032, reliability by Kuder Richardson of 0.91. After data collection, they were coded and analyzed by SPSS version 25 using descriptive statistics, the criteria of ethical rigor were met at all times. Results: 35% practiced self-prescription, cough (63%) and advice from a pharmacist (47%) were common reasons, with pharmacies (96%) as the preferred place of acquisition, frequency and duration of antibiotic use they were 2 to 3 times a year, for less than 3 days (51%). Conclusions: Parents who did not practice self-prescription tended to be adults, men, with technical or higher education and with only one child, suggesting that they could be better informed about the risks of self-prescribing antibiotics, although a considerable proportion of parents still resorts to self-prescription, a significant part seems to be aware of the associated risks and avoids this practice.
