Carbonation has increased in reinforced concrete structures due to the constant increase of CO2 levels worldwide. Carbonation causes corrosion of reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete structures, which increases the risk of reducing their service life or, in severe cases, requiring their demolition. The purpose of this study is to propose a model to predict the depth of carbonation in pure concretes that are not designed for durability (water/cement ratio <0.50), but for strength (water/cement ratio >0.55). The CEB-FIP model is only suitable for concretes with w/c<0.50, therefore, a new model is proposed to estimate the service life of structures in cities with different durability conditions. The version adapted to predict carbonation in high w/c (0.60 and 0.72) pure concretes based on CEB-FIP employs the factors of temperature, humidity, CO2, and water/cement. The purpose is to achieve the accuracy of the altered model to predict the depth of carbonation in cement over time. Theoretical data derived from the adjusted model were used to compare with experimental results of concrete samples tested in an accelerated carbonation chamber.
