In 2008, a Free Trade Agreement was signed with Canada, which came into effect in 2009, which has shown an increase in the marketing of products for export and import. Using a quantitative methodology and the use of the gravity model, the objective of this research is to analyze the impact of non-tariff measures on the volume of exports of fresh mangoes (8045020) within the framework of the FTA between Peru and Canada during the period 2009- 2023. Using a Poisson regression model, the influences of sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT) were assessed. The results revealed that SPS measures have a significant impact, showing both positive and negative effects in different contexts, in which sanitary measures showed a significant negative effect, suggesting that strict regulations can impose added costs that limit competitiveness. In contrast, OTCs did not show a significant impact, suggesting that the adaptive ability of Peruvian exporters can mitigate the negative effects. The findings provide a detailed understanding of how NTMs affect international trade in agricultural products, highlighting the importance of policies and strategies that consider both product quality and safety and the ability of exporters to follow international regulations.
