ABSTRACT The increase of the phreatic level in the coastal valleys due to excess irrigation, or because it stopped exploiting its groundwater with the arrival of irrigation megaprojects, is generating a problem that is showing recently and we predict that it will be urgent in the coming years. The town of San José in the Province of Virú, La Libertad Region, is a clear example of this problem, showing the increase of its groundwater levels that affect the development of its crops installed there and the existing infrastructure. For this reason in this thesis a technical proposal is presented evaluated and executed with positive results to control the water table. In order to control the water table within the permissible levels for the cultivation of Palto (1.5 mts), the vertical drainage technique was used by exploiting 03 tubular wells 50 m deep with an exploitation flow rate of 170 lps. The groundwater is pumped and drifted into an existing drain that leads to the sea. With the hydrogeological study it was projected that in only 10 years, 139.8 hectares of avocado would be lost in production, which would generate a loss of $ 9'611,250.00 to the farm. On the other hand, the implementation of the Drainage System has a cost of $ 1'090,332.30 in 10 years, between initial and operating costs. With the implementation of the vertical drainage system, it was possible to deepen the water table below 2.0 meters, in areas where it was between 1.0 and 0.4 meters, thus ensuring the continuity of Hass avocado production in the estate.
