Abstract To identify the association between risk factors and urinary tract infection (UTI) in infants treated at the Hospital Belen de Trujillo from 2016 to 2023. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive and analytical case-control study that included 309 infants (103 cases and 206 controls). Data were collected from medical records and analyzed using SPSS. The X2 tests and Odds Ratio with 95% confidence intervals and significance of 0.05 (p<0.05) were used. RESULTS: Genitourinary malformations in infants (p=0.000, OR=8.92) were the factor with the strongest association with UTI, followed by female sex (p=0.000, OR=2.84), absence of exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.003, OR=2.30), and age 1-11 months (p=0.049, OR=1.66), which also presented a statistically significant association with UTI, while severe malnutrition did not. CONCLUSIONS: UTI was significantly associated with female sex, age 1-11 months, genitourinary malformations and absence of exclusive breastfeeding. Severe malnutrition did not show significant association.
