ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the physicochemical quality of 100 mg atenolol tablets dispensed in pharmaceutical establishments in Trujillo. Identification was performed by infrared spectroscopy (IR), which allowed confirming the presence of the active ingredient in lots A, B and C. In addition, the titration of the atenolol 100mg tablets was determined for batches A, B and C, where 99.56%, 99.24% and 100.75% were obtained, in compliance with the provisions of USP 42. Additional tests were also carried out to evaluate other physicochemical parameters such as hardness, where values of 4.72, 6.16 and 5.15 kp were obtained, respectively. The friability test was carried out to determine the percentage of weight loss of the tablets and batches A, B and C showed values of 0.01%, 0.07% and 0.07%, each. In addition, the disintegration test was performed, and it was found that batches A, B and C had disintegration times of 5 minutes, 5 minutes and 6 minutes, respectively. In conclusion, the test results indicated that the 100 mg atenolol tablets analyzed comply with the physicochemical parameters established by USP 42.
