The objective of this research work was to determine the curve number using satellite images and geographic information system of the sub-basin of the San Lucas River, Cajamarca and to achieve this, the morphometric characteristics, types of soil and vegetation were determined, satellite images were obtained. Landsat 8 and was processed in ArcGIS and the bands were ordered and the satellite images of the study area were cropped. Initially, the subbasin was delimited and the physical parameters such as area, perimeter, compactness, slope, among others, the number. The curve was obtained by interpolating the vegetation cover, slope and type of soil, relating it into a hydrological group. The maximum flow was obtained using the HEC-HMS hydrological model, which requests information such as curve numbers, concentration time, area, hyetograph (IDF). For the latter, historical precipitation data was obtained from SENAMHI Pisco, which was processed with ArcGIS. And R-Studio, the data were some Analysis of atypical rainfall by the Water Resources Council method, fitting theoretical distributions such as Normal, Log-Normal, Gumbel, Person III or Log-Person III. This included calculating the exceedance probability and return period for each precipitation record. Determining the intensities using the Dyck and Peschke method and the design hyetogram was achieved using the alternating block method. It was possible to determine the morphometric characteristics of the subbasin such as area (59,31 km2), perimeter (66,86 km), length of the main channel (20,78 km), compactness coefficient (2,43). It is a subbasin. . class III with a characteristic Oval – oblong to rectangular – oblong and a shape factor (0,14) its values demonstrate to be a widened basin. The subbasin belongs to Hydrological Group B, eutric Regosol – mollic Andosol soil, and curve number 70,1.
