In welding projects for the construction of bridges, qualified labor is of utmost importance to contribute to the success of the project. The objective of this research proposal is to evaluate the effect of the welding process and change in the welding position on the mechanical properties and health of the 25 mm thick ASTM A709 Grade 50 steel joint. Three test coupons were prepared for groove welding butt joints with flat position submerged arc process and gas shielded tubular arc process for upright and overhead positions. The filler materials and welding parameters were those recommended by the manufacturer. The results of the tests on the test coupons showed mechanical properties that, although they differ significantly as the welding position varies due to the effect of microstructural changes, however, they meet the quality requirements through established mechanical tests and health tests. in the AWS D1.5M/D1.5:2020 bridge welding code, for qualification of welding procedures and welders.
