The objective of this study was to demonstrate that the playful strategy “I understand what I read and write” significantly improves the reading and writing skills of students in the fourth grade of primary school at the educational institution No. 80796 El Huayro in the district of Sanagorán – La Libertad. The research developed adopted the experimental type and pre-experimental design, we worked with a group of 18 students, a pre-test and a post-test were administered using the TALE Test (Annex 1) as an instrument adapted to the Peruvian reality to measure the level of achievement of the literacy skills of schoolchildren. This instrument allowed precise data to be collected on the dependent variable and processed for its corresponding analysis, with the purpose of demonstrating the effect of the independent variable on it and verifying the proposed hypothesis. In reference to the results, it was found that the playful strategy “I understand what I read and write” significantly improved the reading and writing skills of the students in the fourth grade of primary school at the educational institution No. 80796 El Huayro. When comparing the final results of the pre- and post-test, it is observed that at the beginning no student obtained the outstanding achievement and only 6% achieved the expected achievement. After the application of the recreational strategy, 44% registered the satisfactory level of achievement and 22% in outstanding achievement in literacy skills, in the hypothesis test applying the Student t statistic, a calculated value was obtained 8.518 greater than the tabular value 1.7396; at a significance level of 5% (p<0.05), having obtained a probability p=0.0000002; the research hypothesis is accepted.
