The objective of this research work was to see to what extent the application of reading mediation strategies favors the competence to solve quantity problems in 4th grade students of the I.E. N° 81017 Santa Edelmira of the primary level of Trujillo, 2022. The type of study was applied with a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-test; having a sample population of 59 students (25 experimental group and 34 control group). To measure the dependent variable, the “Test of competence to solve quantity problems”, composed of 15 items, was applied. Likewise, 14 learning sessions with reading mediation strategies were applied to the experimental group, obtaining a favorable result since the students increased their academic level in this competence. To determine the effect of the reading mediation strategies, the Mann-Whitney U statistical test was used, which provided a value of 265,000 and the p-value (significance level) is 0.010, which is lower than the alpha value (0.05), which leads to the conclusion that the application of reading mediation strategies significantly favors the ability to solve quantity problems in students in the 4th grade of elementary school.
