Abstract To determine if there is an association between the level of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) of first-time mothers and the nutritional status of the infant under six months. Material and methods: Descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study in primigravidas who had an infant under 6 months of age and who attended the CRED clinic of the “Santa Isabel” Del Porvenir District Hospital during the period from May to July 2022; A questionnaire was applied to 114 primigravidas with breastfed children under 6 months of age and the infant's anthropometric indices were obtained through the CRED. The SPSS statistical package for Windows version 25 was used to process the data. Results: Regarding the level of knowledge in primigravidas, 31.58% was medium and 68.42% was high. According to the P/E index, 99.12% of children were within the normal range and for the L/E index, it corresponded to 98.24%. Regarding the P/T index, a more varied distribution was found, where eutrophic children represented 49.12%, and overweight children represented 41.23%; and the percentage of high knowledge about SCI was 64.9% and 82.98% respectively. Conclusion: There is a significant association between the level of knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding in first-time mothers with the P/T index, but not with T/E or P/E.
