ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to find the proportions of modified starch and sweet potato flour (Ipomoea batatas), which allow obtaining a biodegradable container with optimal physicochemical, mechanical and thermal characteristics. Flour and starch were extracted from sweet potato. Modified starch was obtained with ultrasounds of 17 W/L and 43 W/L volumetric power, using three times 10, 20 and 30 min; and an unmodified control sample. The starches were characterized, measurements of pH and conductivity of salts, amylose and amylopectin content were carried out. Subsequently, containers were formulated using 10%, 20% and 30% fiber, obtaining a total of 21 treatments; in addition, a control treatment (100% starch). Physical tests were carried out on the containers obtained, regarding thickness, density, moisture content, water absorption capacity and color. Likewise, its mechanical properties were analyzed through tension and compression tests using a texture analyzer. The production yield of the treatments carried out was between 60-100%. In addition, thermal tests were carried out: FTIR and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), giving the results that the containers with the best physical, mechanical and thermal characteristics are the treatments T1 (90% starch without ultrasound and 10% flour), T6 (10 min// 17 W/L// 70% modified starch and 30% flour) and T12 (20 min//17 W/L// 70% modified starch and 30% flour).
