The industrial ultrasound technique is widely used to detect internal nonconformities in structural materials. As it is important to determine the exact position of the defect for subsequent repair, reference blocks with characteristics similar to the test element are required that have holes whose amplitudes allow evaluation. by comparison those generated by defects according to acceptability criteria established in manufacturing codes. The objective of the research was to manufacture a block for calibration in the ultrasound test system using acoustic measurements by varying the beam frequency. The acoustic factors were obtained by the pulse-echo technique and direct contact, 4 experimental runs with three repetitions were carried out to produce acoustic waves with a straight and transverse beam with a refraction angle in steel of 70º and frequencies of 2.25 and 5.0 MHz. The results indicate that ultrasonic measurements vary with the frequency of the transducer, which is why it is recommended to use the same transducer used for calibration for inspection. The proposed reference block allowed calibration in distance and establishment of reference curves for the inspection of welded joints according to the ASME section V and AWS D 1.1 codes.
