ABSTRACT The incidence of the level of education on poverty in the Ancash - Peru region is investigated, for which data is used for the 20 provinces, obtained from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), 2017. The theoretical reference that supports the work is the one proposed by Janjua and Kamal (2008), to test the hypothesis a linear regression model is estimated, and to verify if there is dependence between provinces it was evaluated with spatial autocorrelation. It is found that education has an inverse and significant impact on poverty; if educational policy reduces the level of illiteracy by 1 percentage point, poverty falls by the same magnitude. The work is distinguished from other works by its regional dimension and evaluates spatial autocorrelation.
