ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to determine the in vitro efficacy of a photoprotective lip gloss emulsified of aqueous extract of the fruit of Zea mays L. The lip gloss was obtained with the formulation design at concentrations of 2.5%; 5% and 10% of aqueous extract of Zea mays L. Accelerated stability was evaluated by heat stress test at 5 ± 2ºC and 40 ± 2ºC, and shelf stability for 60 days, regarding the organoleptic characteristics, the formulations presented normal appearance, pleasant odor and lilac-purple color, observing slight changes in color and odor as the temperature increases and the passage of time, for the physicochemical characteristics, they presented pH values between 5.6 and 6, 6, and density between 0.73 and 1.15, decreasing at higher temperatures. The determination of the in vitro photoprotective capacity of the emulsified lip gloss was carried out in a diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer equipped with an integration sphere, obtaining SPF and wavelength values equal to 20 ± 4.3 and 383 ± 0.44; 33 ± 6.9 and 383 ± 0.39; 57 ± 18.2 and 384 ± 0.51 at concentrations 2.5%; 5% and 10% respectively, likewise the formulations showed a decrease in SPF and ʎ (nm) after irradiation, so they are not photostable. Concluding that the emulsified lip gloss of Zea mays L. has photoprotective capacity, proportional to the increase in the concentration of the bioactive compound.
