ABSTRACT In the context of urban planning and sustainable development, the detailed characterization of soil plays a crucial role in the effective management of green areas. This research focuses on Sector 6 of Trujillo, La Libertad, with the overall objective of conducting a soil characterization with a view to irrigation and agronomic design of its parks. Considering the importance of these green areas in urban environments, secondary objectives have been set, ranging from the inventory of green areas to the determination of physical and chemical properties of the soil. The results reveal that the soils of the parks in Sector 6 of Trujillo predominantly exhibit sandy loam, loamy sand, and sandy textural classes. The average apparent density is 1.05 g/cm3, while the real density reaches 2.4 g/cm3. The average field capacity is estimated at 15.30%, with a permanent wilting point of 6.33%. The average pH of the park soils is 7.339. Soil analysis indicates a predominantly low to moderate electrical conductivity. These findings provide valuable information for the management and planning of green areas, as well as for the agronomic design of parks in Sector 6 of Trujillo. The implementation of specific irrigation practices is suggested, along with considering soil properties when planning future agronomic projects in the area. This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of soils in urban environments, facilitating informed decisions for environmental sustainability and the well-being of the local community.
