ABSTRACT This report on pre-professional practices is a cross-sectional, observational, descriptive, and prospective study and its objective is to evaluate the consumption of oral Bisacodyl in an Internal Medicine service, National Hospital, July 2019 - January 2020. A non-probabilistic sampling was carried out, where all patients hospitalized in an Internal Medicine service with a prescription of Bisacodyl 5mg tablet were included in the study. Bisacodyl consumption was analyzed in 104 patients and 205 treatments were considered. Of the total number of patients, 59% were women and 41% men, with respect to the age group, 2.9% were young, 34.6% were adults and 62.5% were older adults. It was determined that the most frequent Bisacodyl dose was the 5mg / day used in 53.2% of the cases, followed by the 10mg / day dose used in 45.4%, while the 15mg / day doses and 30mg / day were used in 1% and 0.5% of the cases, respectively. In addition, the treatment in days of Bisacodyl was analyzed, showing that the one-day treatment was the most frequent with 29.3%, followed by the two and three-day treatments with 15.1% and 11.7% respectively. longer treatments were less frequent. The month with the highest consumption of Bisacodilo was August with 17.4% whose cost was S/ 21.92, followed by the month of October with 16.7% and a cost of S/ 20.97 and the month with the lowest consumption was January with 11.3% and a cost of S/ 14,18. It can be evidenced that, although it does not represent a large expense, the consumption of Bisacodyl is a drug widely used in the Internal Medicine service of the study, since constipation is very frequent in hospitalized patients.
