ABSTRACT The purpose of this work was to determine the physicochemical quality of sodium bicarbonate 100 g powder for oral solution from a national pharmaceutical laboratory with respect to the specifications established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) version 42. Three batches of sodium bicarbonate of 100 g, were worked and coded with the letters A, B and C respectively; 10 units of the product were collected from each batch, obtained from a random sampling according to the finished product procedure. Results of evaluated physicochemical tests were: white crystalline powder, with a characteristic odor, the minimum filling of the batches analyzed is 100.20 g. Test of Identification of sodium was correct; no precipitate was formed with sodium carbonate. In bicarbonate identification test, it was compliant; it is was stained red with phenolphthalein SR. In appearance, the reconstituted solution in water was compliant, homogeneous solution, without visible particles with a salty, colorless taste. Results of loss on drying test, was 0.15% and evaluation of active principle result was 100.13%, based on laboratory's analytical technique. Physicochemical results of sodium bicarbonate 100 g are in accordance with technical specifications established in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) version 42
