Abstract Introduction: Burnout syndrome (BS) is the inadequate chronic stress response due to overwork. It can be applied to students, understood as exhaustion from studying, depersonalization when studying and lower performance in relation to academic work. Objective: Determine the association between BS and virtual academic performance in students from 1st to 4th year of secondary school at Educational Institution N° 81751 “Dios es Amor” - La Esperanza-Trujillo-2021. Materials and methods: Descriptive observational cross-sectional and correlational study with a sample of 228 high school students, applying the modified unidimensional student burnout scale and a sociodemographic sheet. The Gamma Test was used for statistical analysis. Results: It was found that 100% of the sample presented SB, of which 51.8% had mild SB, 39.5%, moderate, and 8.8%, profound. In addition, 6.1% had a very good virtual academic performance, 26.3% had a regular academic performance, and 67.5% had a good virtual academic performance. According to the statistical analysis, there is not enough evidence at the 5% level (p > 0.05) to affirm that SB is related to virtual academic performance. Conclusions: There is no statistical association between SB and virtual academic performance in students from 1st to 4th year of secondary school.
