This academic research has studied The effect of the pre-heated temperature on cold cracks susceptibility, hardness and heat-affected zone (HAZ) width, in the join of sheet antiwear steels NKK 400, welded by mean SMAW proces. Unifactorial design has been used with 5 levels of temperature variable (100°C, 140°C, 180°C, 220°C y 260°C) and 3 replicas of the experiment for each a welding process, moreover it was considered a sample pattern for each process, the result were 16 samples. Every sample, according to WIC norm, consist of two steel sheet NKK 400 of 50,0 x 76,0 x 12,5 mm, a “V” joint and a root separation in the base of 1,0 mm, so they were putted on a cold plate of commercial steel ASTM A36 with dimensions of 70 x 180x 12,5mm. The welding process was made according to the random design in the order of proof execution, seven runs in multi-runs were made with pre heated at the beginning and between run. The profiles of hardness of each welded sample & microstructure in the 4 selected points showed that relationship between the hardness and the microstructural changes were due to preheated temperature, energy of the process, material filler and the dilution. There was not observed any microfisuras. In the HAZ the new micro constituents have produced zones with high hardness under run and zones with low hardness due to over tempering. The distances measured from the center of the run to the points in which the lesser and larger hardness has been measured inside the HAZ did not result severely affected, but if the distance to the maximum extreme of the HAZ like pre-heated effect when the temperature was over 180ºC . In FZ, it was observed columnar and refined zones with typical micro constituents. The appropriate temperature of preheated was determined in the range of 140°C and 180°C for SMAW.
