The present study is based on the research carried out by the authors, which has been titled “Maintenance management model to increase availability in a metalworking SME applying TPM, SMED and PDCA” (Espinoza-Huamash et al., 2022). Which consisted of the following: The variability and demands of demand, which globalization has triggered, led metalworking SMEs to develop more efficient processes. Therefore, increasing availability is considered a key strategy to remain competitive in the market. However, this procedure is complex to increase for this type of companies. This is due to a poor maintenance system that involves the performance of the machine and operator, causing the utility to have a loss of 8%. Given this, a maintenance management model is proposed, the first component of which consists of improving the work environment and the operator's performance through 5S and TPM (Safety, Health and Environment and Training and Training). Subsequently, the disuse and configuration time of each machine is reduced through the use of SMED, autonomous and preventive maintenance respectively. Thus, the availability level increased by 8% and continuous improvement was applied to the processes, which will additionally increase availability by 3%. To validate these results, a simulation of the process of handling an incident in the workshop was carried out, where the current times and the times affected by the application of the techniques and tools were compared. Finally, the simulation of the model obtains indicators higher than expected, which depended on the proper functioning of machinery, adaptation of the operator and management disposition. In addition to this, the key element of the contribution was the management of inventories of parts and consumables, since in this sector its study is recommended to be evaluated, since it is the one that generates the greatest time savings.
