The objective of the present study was to determine the antihypertensive effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of the seeds of Tunilla soehrensii Britton & Rose (Airampo) in albino rats. The phytochemical screening was carried out according to the Olga Lock method, in order to qualitatively determine the main secondary metabolites through coloration and precipitation reactions in the hydroalcoholic extract of the airampo seeds. In the development of antihypertension, 3 doses were used, 250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, and the 20 mg/kg captopril drug was used as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. The induction of blood pressure was performed with L-NAME, at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day orally, animals were separated into 6 groups. Among the most relevant results is that phytochemical screening revealed the presence of tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids and coumarins. Other of the most important results were that at a dose of 250 mg/kg, a blood pressure of 139/97 equivalent to 17% of efficacy was evidenced, likewise, the dose of 500 mg/kg reached a blood pressure of 135/93 equivalent at an efficacy of 45% and the dose of 1000mg/kg presented a blood pressure of 130/89 equivalent to 80%. Despite this, when evaluated with the positive control, these values were lower than those reported by captopril. It was concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of the seeds of Tunilla soehrensii Britton & Rose, has antihypertensive effect in all its doses and could be used as a treatment in hypertension.Key words: Diastolic pressure, systolic pressure, Hypertension, hydroalcoholic extract, airampo.
