The aim of this research is to describe the degree of digital competence that engineering students from a private institution of higher education in Lima have, from the student's perspective. It is known that the young people of the 21st century have skill in the use of digital tools that they basically use for their entertainment and communication through social networks. However, this does not necessarily imply that their skills have an impact on the educational field. To this end, interviews were carried out with 20 students in which they expressed the way in which they obtain, filter, store, retrieve and use the digital information that serves as a support tool in their virtual education. The results show that students have an intermediate level of digital skills that allows them to function in the collaborative development of their virtual classes; being said skills empirical or searching the internet to find quick solutions. This, in corroboration with the authors Vargas-Murillo (2019) and INTEF (2007) who state that students must show digital competences to face their virtual education and a good professional performance having experience in different environments in order to ensure uniform development in all competencies. that students should have. For this reason, it can be concluded that an inductive training workshop is necessary to improve their digital skills in relation to their virtual education as future professionals.
