In this paper we analyzed the relationships between the Learning Based competencies exercised with the help of virtual classroom and academic performance, we studied the characteristics of learning through the data provided by students of software engineering and its final evaluations in the UTP chemistry course - LIMA, 2013. The methodology used was descriptive, relational and transversal non-experimental design. After the tests and applying a questionnaire with questions aimed at knowing the relationship between academic performance and teaching by competences, we arrive at the following results: The application of parametric statistics demonstrates that the meanings are positive, and allow to assert that the Application of competency-based learning according to the descriptive indicators in the development of the subject influence the academic performance. Therefore, among other recommendations, we suggest that university teachers of chemical education and non-educators should undertake university teaching studies that include didactic classes and teaching methods in order to improve the academic competences and the specific competences of their students, As well as to carry out new research that contemplates the teaching and learning processes of chemistry at university level.
