The constant changes and accelerated technological advances in the world today require innovation in the Peruvian university; this requires teachers to change their attitude in their performance, demanding new competences. Competences that not only implies the techniques and methods of teaching; but it also supposes finding the transcendent value of the didactic planning process and of concretizing it in the daily teaching practice. For this reason as researchers of this thesis we chose the topic of Problem Based Learning (ABP), and we propose as main objective: To determine the influence of the application of Problem-Based Learning in the Teaching of thermodynamics in the students of the fifth cycle of Mechatronics Engineering of the Universidad Tecnológica del Perú, 2016-III. It is an experimental one, as it describes the effects of a new teaching methodology on the achievement of educational objectives or competencies. Explanatory level since it pretends to explain in a scientific way the occurrence of a phenomenon. We find in summary that the ABP process influences the teaching of thermodynamics, since validating the general hypothesis by testing unrelated groups U-MANN WHITNEY with the help of SPSS 21 yields a sigma value of p = 0.020 < of P = 0.05, which rejects the null hypothesis and accepts the alternative, concluding that if there are significant differences between the pre and post-test in the experimental group, demonstrating that the phases of the learning process in the PBL do influence the teaching of thermodynamics. Finally, by rejecting the five specific hypotheses and accepting the alternative hypotheses, it is concluded that the application of Problem Based Learning positively influences the teaching of thermodynamics in the students of the fifth cycle of Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica del Perú, 2016 - III. Recommend to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to socialize your application.
