Families living in poor areas such as human settlements do not have water and usually suffer from illnesses related to poor water consumption, and this is where the government intervenes with solution proposals, addressing the needs of the residents, but by counting with limited resources the CBA applies. The present work aims to provide comprehensive information on cost-benefit analysis (CBA) as evaluation techniques for proposals for drinking water supply and to show available evidence of its use in estimating public interventions. The study methodology used is a bibliographic review of literature of an exploratory qualitative nature in order to get to know in depth about CBA and gather information on its application. The results found demonstrate that the CBA is usually applied for the selection of alternatives linked to the well-being of citizens and for the estimation it is supported by evaluation indicators, such as the net present value (NPV). In summary, this tool facilitates the choice between a series of projects to the one that presents the highest degree of relevance, benefit for those involved in the proposal.
