The objective of this study was to describe the perception of the teachers about demonstrating their emotional intelligence in the different moments of the learning sessions in the Professional School of Advertising and Multimedia of a private university in Arequipa during the odd semester 2020. Various books and studies corroborate how important emotional intelligence is for the referred process; and especially, in the tasks of knowledge transfer and skills training developed by higher-level teachers. The methodology used for the present study was of a qualitative approach and a phenomenological design. Regarding the scope of the research, the descriptive explanatory was chosen, according to the objectives of the research. When applying the instruments to gather information, it was used a sample made up of 40% of the total population, composed of 23 teachers from the selected institution. Semi structured interviews were applied to collect teachers' perception towards emotional intelligence. The results showed that teachers possess a positive perception regarding the dimensions that make up emotional intelligence, qualifying some of them as fundamental for a successful teaching-learning process. However, it was also evidenced that most are unaware of the techniques that would allow them to strengthen self-knowledge, self-motivation, self-control, empathy and social skills to improve relationships with their students. Conclusions show that teachers value emotional intelligence, but do not incorporate it in a structured way during their learning sessions; therefore, their interest in expanding the repertoire of tools to take better advantage of the aforementioned dimensions in the teaching process is notable.
