The current research is focused on determining the effectiveness of sludge suction at the Bay of Titicaca Lake in the Puno city. The sewage of the city was poured into the bay without previous treatment during past decades. As a result, this natural source of water has been polluted with phosphorus, nitrogen, dissolved oxygen, which has caused the disturbance of oxygen levels required for the chemical and biochemical process. The research shows that the quantity of these chemical elements is higher than values establish as the maximum limit and those allowed by environmental quality standards. This fact is possible to realize by eutrophication of the bay and the stink, bringing about health problems in thepopulation around the bay.The research has a quantitative approach, descriptive scope and design non-transversal experimental.In the past, different types of research were performed to find a solution, like the sowing of cattail or similar aquatic plants, cover the polluted zones with a backfill of silty or sand, oxygenate the polluted water by nano technological bubble, and the use of an organic solution to avoid cloudy water. Notwithstanding, never was there obtained positive outcomes. This is the reason why the current research is proposing sludge suction to solve the problem.The alternative of sludge suction was analyzed based on the evaluation of pollution elements, diagnosis of the problem, and the following factors: technical, budget, cost-effective, impact on tourism, diseases that affect the surrounding inhabitants, and execution schedule. The research conclusion indicates that the alternative proposed is competitive and provides benefits in the different factors evaluated.
