This project describes the unstable behavior of a copper flotation circuit based on three connected cascade-type cells with feedback, in which, the oscillations of the level in a cell alter the control in the following cells, and these at their instead, they alter the magnitude of the flow of income, as a result, the final law of the desired concentrate decreases, increases production costs and increases reprocessing times. The data have been obtained from the pilot mineral processing plant of Tecsup, which has a proportional integrative controller for process control, then the flotation cells and proportional control valves were modeled mathematically, then the strategy was programmed of control using RS Logix5000 software and the behavior of the plant in the Labview program was simulated. Additionally, the algorithm of a proportional integrative controller was developed to compare the results between the two control methods. With the stability obtained in the cells, with respect to the production indicators, the formation of the bubble-mineral set is increased, the unwanted solid particles are kept at the bottom of the cells, consequently, the final value of the law is raised of the process; with respect to the maintenance indicators, the wear of the valves and positioners is reduced, therefore, the costs of repair and replacement of components are decreased.
